TSUNAMI RELIEF AND FLOOR RELIEF AND HELP:

Tsunami hits Eastern and South coastal areas in India. Over a thousand people have been killed in tidal waves in Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu was the "worst affected" with possibly over 1000 people killed. The casualty figure could rise further as many fishing villages were submerged in seawater.

As a right response to this disaster we also involved in relief work. We classify our relief work as immediate relief mid term relief and long term relief. We gave food and food products, cloths, household vessels. Nets have been provided not for the individuals but for the each community for relief. So they get back their work start to live with hope as they are before. As long term relief the children were given new admission in the schools in which we have sponsored school fees and basic amenities. And we have given them economical assistance and helped them to go for self employment or usual fishing individually.

Flood-ravaged Chennai is faced with the threat of yet another spell of rains, thanks to a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal which is moving towards the metropolis. Under its influence, heavy rains were likely over north coastal Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, and Pondicherry. Gales with wind speed of 50-80 km were likely in coastal areas of north Tamil Nadu and pondicherry. Following a three-day respite from rains, water has receded in flood-affected areas of Chennai and adjoining Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts. There is very little water logging in the worst affected Kotturpuram area in Chennai. In the industrial areas of Gundy and suburban Ambattur, where production has been severely affected due to flooding, water is being pumped out continuously.

In Chennai, our volunteers got people out of flooded areas and helped them get to safer areas. We immediately started collecting clothes and blankets. In the camps, we organized food for the night and provided people with blankets. Since there were lots of people in each relief camp, and blankets were in great demand, we waited till everyone went to sleep and then we looked for children and women who were without blankets and covered them with the blankets. By the next day the water in most locations was drained and people went back to their homes. We continued working in Kallukuttai area for another 3 weeks - because the entire place continued to be water-logged. We organized several health camps and supplied bread and food for several days (when ever there was a need). We also provide them with blankets for children. The location continued to have neck deep water and our volunteers (including the doctor) had to travel by thermacole boats to get to people's homes.
